My son is obsessed with reading anything he can get his hands on. He will read cereal boxes, carry-out menus, catalogs, and especially books! I encourage this obsession because it develops his mind, expands his vocabulary, and cultivates his imagination.

I keep hearing on social media, television, and on the internet about the fact that switching to a plant-based diet is healthier for us, can get rid of leaky gut syndrome, and can reduce disease (or the risk of certain diseases) among other benefits. As with most such topics, Googling terms like “healthier eating”, “plant-based diet” or other similar keywords will return results that, quite frankly, just boggle my mind. It’s total information overload.

A Plant-Based Life: Your Complete Guide to Great Food, Radiant Health, Boundless Energy, and a Better Body by Micaela Cook Karlsen appealed to me not only because of the fantastic and colorful cover art but also because reading the synopsis of what the book contains it seemed to be a single source of information that would discuss the topic in a fairly complete manner.

One particularly successful example of this enterprise? Ipsy’s Glam Bags. Not all beauty box subscriptions begin with a quiz to personalize your product selection, but this one does–and at ten dollars a month, it’s an exciting prospect!

Exploring Southwestern Michigan Wineries

One of our favorite spots for a family getaway is Douglas/Saugatuck, Michigan. I think it’s safe to say we’re officially one of the regulars. On our most recent trip, I was fortunate enough to have my parents travelling with us. This allowed my husband and me to have a few opportunities for “dates” while our son spent time with his grandparents. Whenever we visit the Saugatuck area, we never miss two of our favorite wineries: Fenn Valley and Hudsonville.
