I am really excited to share my thought with you, dear reader, about a wonderful book that I read recently. The Last Cherry Blossom by Kathleen Burkinshaw (from Sky Pony Press) is a fiction novel set during World War II. It is based on the real-life experience of the author’s mother who was a Japanese teen living in Hiroshima at the time that the atomic bomb was dropped on that city.
This premise immediately caught my interest as I had not previously considered what that experience must have been like for Japanese citizens who were subjected to it. Like me, if this is the first time you are looking at this historic event from that perspective, you may be shuddering a bit, and a bit chastened as well to think about it from this unfamiliar perspective.
